Extra-curricular opportunities are a key part of primary education, providing children with the chance to explore interests, develop new skills, and grow in confidence outside the traditional classroom setting. At Great Alne Primary, we’re proud of the variety of activities we offer, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

Art Club with Mrs Bird encourages creativity and expression, while Eco Club with Mrs McStrafick gives students the chance to engage with environmental issues, learning teamwork and responsibility. Music plays a big part too, with Mrs Brereton leading the choir and Mr Penn offering piano lessons in the Piano Lab, helping children to develop musical skills and boost their confidence.

Sports are also a key focus. The On-Side Football Club encourages teamwork, discipline, and fitness, while our Dance Club allows children to express themselves physically and creatively, building coordination and self-esteem. Both clubs offer a fun way for students to stay active and healthy.

In addition to in-school clubs, we have strong ties with the local community. Our students represent the school at events like the Alcester Street Market and enjoy visits to Great Alne Park retirement village, where they interact with older generations, learning empathy and respect. Our ‘Reading Buddy’ volunteers of all ages provide another fantastic opportunity for children to socialise, improve their reading skills, and gain confidence.

Enriching school trips, such as visits to St John’s Museum in Warwick, the Black Country Museum, and Drayton Manor Park for our Year 6 pupils, offer fun and educational experiences outside the classroom. These trips help bring learning to life, providing memorable experiences.

Altogether, these extra-curricular opportunities are essential for helping children develop a wide range of skills, broaden their horizons, and grow into well-rounded, confident young people.
